dudemanflab's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro to Eng Grad Today was my first formal meeting with the people in the English Department. First was a wine and cheese reception at the library, which consisted of mostly students mingling stiffly--what's your interest? where are you from?--until the alcohol set in. Then Melissa, Mary, and I took a couple of girls to Bill Rossi's house, where we had a great dinner, more drinks, and dessert. I met a lot of people, and now I'm filled with the taste of what may be still in my mouth. Who will share these years with me? As far as profs go, Liz Bohls is taller than I thought she would be, long-legged, and Gordon Sayres is more rustic than his picture online. A fun night. Met Josh who finished his MA this summer. His interests were postcolonial and working class (mining!) literature, mostly from his experience around the copper mines of Montana. He talked calmly and seemed to listen, something that's rare when meeting new people. I also got stung by a bee, which hurt more than I remembered. 10:12 p.m. - September 25, 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
