dudemanflab's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Solstice It's strange when nature sometimes bends to human holidays, or when human perception of nature is so vivid on holidays. Either way, Tim, Nerissa, and I drove home in the solstice sunset. I didn't know it was the solstice. I was banking on tomorrow. The hill country in Massachusetts doesn't have a lot of sky. It has hills. and trees. roads. houses with signs saying 'pure maple syrup.' rock walls in varying states. woodchucks. general stores. but no wide-arcing, horizon-line of a sky. Tonight, though, from eight onward, the upper parts of sky were full of clouds, and the sun was casting a warm glow on them all. By eight thirty, you could see the twilight line overhead, slowly edging purple where oranges and pinks had flown. We kept saying how beautiful it was. We were listening to Led Zeppelin 4 and talking about music. Then tonight, the shortest night, I walked outside and the sky was full of puffy clouds. It's nearly a full moon, and the whole darkened heavens are illumined. We move to greater bodies. 11:22 p.m. - June 20, 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
