XTNTY
After a semester of New Testament theology-- weighing Greek and Jewish influences in the palm of my hand, being disillusioned by Paul, and audience to so many verbal ranklings I hungered for ritual--I came home. But that summer I did not ruminate on the canon, the apocalypse, glossalalia; the residual thought was my professor's shorthand for the faith. He was apologetic, said he hardly thought of it unless students complained. Unburdened from excess letters and plain for all eyes on the whiteboard, it bore the same secret that Mary kept, even after her body became only a sign. The Galilean, with two (miraculous) sets of chromosomes-- sound genetics--and a stick of dynamite wedged between. That the form he assumed was volatile, highly unstable, and not to be handled lightly.
