technocracy

Frustrated at technology.
Why does it claim to make life easier and then, with a plastic-covered sweep, magnify complications mundo eternam?

In gradeschool, the textbooks portrayed the second law of thermodynamics with a house, figure 3-14, a chapter after "What is Science?" The place was rotting, missing boards from years of abandonment and decay, and grass engulfed it on all sides. Entropy, it warned, affects all things unless some force counteracts it. When I stop to think about the entropy that could alter my world on a micro-level-- a broken phone, the destruction of the US mail system, no access to the internet, transmission shot-- nearly all of them are connected to technology. Entropy to a degree, but manmade, and thus bound not to last.

Course if China took over, the dollar crashed, or the desert dried up to the degree hourglass sand-- then entropy would be fearful. But really, even that's not so bad as the galaxy folding.

I wonder how much of earth's processes would not seem so destructive, so entropical, if we did not have our towers, metropoli, power plants that got in its way.

This video by They Might Be Giants gave me a smile back. The song's probably my favorite off the new cd.
